Project description
Soft timber and tired sills were repaired before a colour the whole elevation could share.
From the gate the house looked faded. Up close, two sills and a porch post were the real work. We repaired those, then painted, so the new colour was not asked to hide movement.
Samples were taped to the elevation and looked at twice, once in flat light and once before sunset. The household chose a quieter tone than the first chip. Planting along the path was sheeted only on painting days.
The porch deck boards that had cupped were turned or replaced as the survey allowed. Arrival at the front door is now the same quality as the wall beside it.
“People notice the colour. We notice that the sill does not flake onto the step anymore.”
