Project description
Draughty units were replaced in their openings, with new seals and deeper sills for the rain.
The brief was comfort, not a glass wall. Four windows and a garden door leaked air at the seals and water at two sills. We replaced the units in the existing openings and rebuilt the sill detail so water leaves the face of the wall.
Internal linings were made good in the same week as each opening, so no room sat with bare edges. The garden door was hung to the finished floor height, which had been set the month before with the flooring scope.
Hardware is simple to lock with one hand, which mattered to the household. Drainage slots are on the care note, because a beautiful door still needs those slots clear.
“The room is warmer in the evening without feeling sealed up. We can hear the garden and not the draught.”
